Documentary Filmmaker Visits Dexter Library

Rodney Brown will discuss Michigan's role in the American Civil War.

Local residents are invited to join Rodney Brown, award-winning filmmaker, former senior executive producer at WFUM-PBS, and co-founder of iMichigan Productions, as he presents “The Michigan Experience: The American Civil War Years” at the at 7 p.m. June 7.

Having worked closely with state experts, historians, and educators as he documented Michigan’s Civil War history for the iMichigan Productions documentary project, Brown mixes these historically accurate stories with vibrant media imagery to highlight the significant role Michigan played in the Civil War.

"Michigan was a major force in determining the outcome of the Civil War. Michigan supplied tons of iron ore, lumber, horses, ambulances and 90,000 men including sharpshooters and engineers," librarian Lisa Ryan said. "Of these men, 68 received the Medal of Honor for bravery on the battlefield."
