Enjoy Outdoor Family Activities Around Dexter

Here is a look at some of the events going on around the Dexter area this weekend.

1. Community Picnic and National Register Ceremony

Where/when:  Chelsea District Library in Chelsea, Saturday at 11 a.m.

Why go?: Take the whole family to an old-time family fun and lunch at the Chelsea Area Historical Museum, where residents will celebrate the grand opening of Chelsea’s historical museum with a chicken broil, kid games, live musical entertainment, vintage baseball game, homemade pie sale, quilt raffle, Model-T car display and tours of the museum.  Visit www.chelseahistory.org for more information.

2. “Lawnlypics” Bean Bag and Ladder Golf Tournament

Where/when:  Brighton Recreation Area, 6360 Chilson Rd. in Howell on Saturday.

Why go?:  Michigan’s backyard throw down has come to Brighton’s Recreation Area.  People who place in the top will earn a spot in the statewide tournament. Call the park for more information, 810-229-6566.

Pricing:  $10 recreation passport

3. Vintage Baseball Game

Where/when: Gordon Hall, 8341 Island Lake Rd., Sunday at 2 p.m.

Why go?: Come see the Monitor Baseball Club of Chelsea face-off against the Royal Oak Wahoo Club in true 1800s-style baseball.

Pricing: Free with $10 admittance into the Civil War Days area at Gordon Hall

4. Fishing Fun Day

Where/when:  Hudson Mills Metro Park, Sunday 1-3 p.m.

Why go?:  Get hooked on fishing! You won’t need a fishing license during the DNR’s free fishing day.  Rods, reels and bait and tackle are provided.  Call 734-426-8211 for more information.

Pricing: $3 per rod and reel

5. Fun in the Sun

Where/when:  Pinckney State Recreation Area, 8555 Silver Hill Rd. Pinckney, all weekend.

Why go?:  There is so much to do at the Pinckney State Recreation Area.  There are numerous lakes, picnic areas, playgrounds, fishing and beaches, including Silver Lake.  You can also rent canoes, kayaks, paddle boats and rowboats or go hiking or mountain biking.  Call the park for more information, 734-426-4913.
