Participants can register online through April to participate in the fundraiser at Hudson Mills Metropark.

The American Cancer Society’s second annual "Feet and Friends Fighting Colon Cancer" event will take place April 21 at .

The event will include a 5K run/walk and an 8K run. All ages and skill levels may participate, and all proceeds from the race will be donated to fund colon cancer awareness and prevention.

According to the American Cancer Society, colon cancer is the third leading cause of cancer death in men and women in the United States. Thanks to improvements in prevention, early detection and treatment, however, more than one million people in the United States are considered cancer survivors.

“Feet and Friends Fighting Colon Cancer” was founded by Karen Lewis of Brighton, and Susan Snyder of Ann Arbor – two friends who are also colon cancer survivors.

The first event in 2011 raised more than $60,000. Part of the proceeds from that event have been invested in a colon cancer screening awareness campaign called “Don’t You Want to Know?” that will be promoted on billboards and buses around Washtenaw County throughout March.

The entry fee for the run is $25 per person through April 1, $30 per person April 2-20, and $35 on race day (April 21). Registration fee includes a specially designed tech shirt.

Handmade pottery awards by local Ann Arbor potter Stan Baker of Highers Pottery, will be presented to the overall and age group winners in the 5K and 8K events, as well as to the team with the most participants, raises the most contributions, and team with the most colon cancer survivors.
