Five Things You Need to Know: Week of May 2

Here's a look at some of the events going on this week around Dexter.

From elections to sports, here are a few events going on this week around Dexter that you don't want to miss.

1. Dexter Daze Meeting

Planning for the Dexter Daze festival Aug. 12-13 is well under way. The public is welcome at the next Dexter Daze meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at the . Visit dexterdaze.org for more information on the festival.

2. Dexter High School junior varsity baseball

Come out and support our local athletes as the junior varsity baseball team takes on Ann Arbor Skyline High School at 4 p.m. Monday. Visit dexterbaseball.com for more information.

3. Teen Star Wars trivia contest

The is sponsoring a Star Wars trivia contest for students in grades 6-12. Stop by the teen room at the library no later than Monday and pick up a trivia sheet. Winners will be chosen from those entries with the most correct answers and will be announced Wednesday, National Star Wars Day. Visit the library's Facebook page for more information.

4. Don't forget to vote

Don’t forget to vote Tuesday on the Washtenaw Intermediate School District's special education as well as for the two open school board positions. 5. Learn how to raise chickens

Have you ever wondered whether you would be able to properly care for and raise chickens? You can learn all about the basics of starting your very own chicken coop in your backyard. Join local chicken enthusiast and Dexter resident Leah Vermeylen at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Dexter District Library to get started. Vermeylen will even bring a few of her own chickens for display.  The event is free and open to the public.
