1. WALK AROUND TOWN

Where/When: The Healthy Communities Walking Program will hold a free community walk at 10 a.m. Saturday starting at the . Participants are asked to dress appropriately for the two-mile outdoor walk.

Why go? If you haven't kept up on your New Year's resolution, this event is a good way to start. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of Dexter while conversing with neighbors in the great outdoors.

2. SHOWCASE OF CHOIRS

Where/When: The 21st annual Showcase of Choirs will be held at Chelsea High School, 740 N. Freer Rd., from 7-10 p.m. Saturday.

Why go?: Fans of the hit television show Glee will enjoy performances by the Battle Creek High School, Adrian High School, Chelsea High School and Greenville High School show choirs.

Pricing: Tickets are $10 at Chelsea Pharmacy or at the door the night of the performance.

3. JAZZ TRIO CONCERT

Where/When: The jazz trio of Tad Weed, Kurt Krahnke and Sean Dobbins will perform a special concert with Detroit jazz legend George Benson at the Kerrytown Concert House, 415 N. Fourth Ave. in Ann Arbor, at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Why go?: Jazz aficionados will enjoy an afternoon of music and conversation with Benson.

Pricing: $10 to $30. Call 734-769-2999 for reservations.

4. ENCORE MUSICAL THEATRE

Where/When: The Encore Musical Theatre in Dexter continues its 2011 season with Little Women: The Musical. Shows are at 8 p.m. Friday, 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. To order tickets, visit the Encore online.

Why go?: Little Women embodies the complete theatrical experience, guaranteeing a night filled with laughter, tears and a lifting of the spirit for you and your friends and family. A night out on the town is also a great way to keep local funding in Dexter.

Pricing: Adults: $28. Groups of 10 or more: $22 each. Seniors (ages 55 and older): $25. Youth (ages 17 and younger): $25.

5. JOURNEY TO THE SUGAR BUSH

Where/when: Activity Center, Saturday and Sunday.

Why go?: Take a journey to the sugar bush on a guided tour. You will travel back in time and experience how maple syrup has been made through the years. You may also get a chance to tap a tree. You’ll probably work up an appetite, so stay for the all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Preregistration is required. Cost: The guided tour costs $3; the pancake breakfast costs $3.50 per child or $5.50 per adult.
