Get Out: 5 Things to Do This Weekend

Here is a look at some things going on around the area this weekend.

Fathers come in all shapes, sizes and colors. In honor of Father's Day, Dexter Patch has compiled a list of fun ways to spend the weekend with your dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, stepdad, etc.

1. Great Lakes Chamber Music MiniFest

Where/when: The 18th annual Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival (GLCMF) returns for its MiniFest residency at 8 p.m. Friday at Kerrytown Concert House in Ann Arbor.

Why go? The concert features world-renowned artists Paul Katz and Pei-Shan Lee, as well as up-and-coming chamber ensembles Trio Terzetto and the Jasper String Quartet, as part of the festival's acclaimed Shouse Institute.

2. Beginning Fly Fishing

Where/when: Gallup Park, 3000 Fuller Rd., Ann Arbor; 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.

Why go? Dads can spend a day with their children and learn casting, knot-tying, fly identification, entomology and wading with Mike Mouradian of Ann Arbor Trout Unlimited. Rods, waders, flies and lunch will be provided. Participants should bring their own pair of polarized sunglasses and appropriate clothing for the weather.

3. Consider the Oyster at the Purple Rose

Where/when: The Purple Rose Theatre, 137 Park St. in Chelsea; 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Why go? During the celebration of a Detroit Lions Super Bowl victory, Gene Walsh impulsively proposes marriage to the love of his life. When she joyously accepts, he tumbles over the coffee table. This chance fall begins a hilarious cascade of startling twists that turn the happy couple's future upside down and inside out.

4. Summer Classic Film Series presents The Godfather

Where/when: Michigan Theater, 603 E. Liberty St., Ann Arbor; 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Why go? Treat Dad to an afternoon show with the classic Francis Ford Coppola drama on the big screen.

Pricing: $9 general; $7 veterans, seniors, students and children younger than 12.

5. First Annual Peace Festival

Where/when: Gallup Park, 3000 Fuller Rd., Ann Arbor; noon-5 p.m. Sunday.

Why go: Contemplate the words of peace leaders, enjoy a walk in our labyrinth, meditate on the lakeside deck, enjoy a bakery treat, drum in our circle, contribute your prayers for peace for our city or have your face painted.
