Grab & Go Planner: Dinosaur Tours, Saline Community Fair Top Weekend Events

Here's a look at some friendly-family events going on around the Dexter area this week.

Celebrate the end of summer by spending the weekend with your family at one of several events happening around the area this week.

1. Free Dinosaur Tour

Where/When: University of Michigan Exhibit Museum of Natural History, Saturday at 2 p.m.

2. Planetarium Show: Larry Cat in Space

Where/When: University of Michigan Exhibit Museum of Natural History, weekdays and Saturdays at 12:30 p.m.

Why go?: This is a great program for kids in kindergarten through third grade but can be enjoyed by kids of all ages. Join an inquisitive cat (Larry) as he stows away on a spaceship headed for the moon. This is a playful and imaginative way for the kids to learn all about the moon.

Pricing: $5

3. Saline Community Fair

Where/When: Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds, 5055 Ann Arbor-Saline Rd., now through Monday.

Why go?: This is a week full of exciting events the entire family can enjoy, including animal judging, the Miss Saline pageant, live music and rides.

Pricing: $7 daily admission (ages 11 and older); children 10 and younger are admitted free.

4. Horse-Drawn Hay Rides

Where/When: Kensington Metropark Farm Center, weekends, noon to 4 p.m.

Why go?: Enjoy a relaxing tour of all the beauty Kensington has to offer on a relaxing horse-drawn hay ride. Call 248-684-8632 for more information.

Pricing: $3 for children 3-12 and senior citizens, $5 per adult.

5. Old Saint Patrick Labor Day Festival

Where/When: Old St. Patrick Catholic Church, 5671 Whitmore Lake Rd. in Ann Arbor, Saturday and Sunday, noon to 11 p.m.

Why go?: Treat the whole family to a fun-filled day on this last weekend of summer. There will be lots of great entertainment from the Kielbasa Kings and Billy Mack and the Juke Joint Johnnies. The kids will have a great time having their faces painted, jumping on the inflatables, climbing the rock wall and petting the farm animals at the petting zoo.
