Hudson Mills Hosts Mother's Day Wildflower Event

Here is a look at some weekend family-friendly activities around the area.

As warmer weather approaches, kids are itching to get outside and play. Don’t let the boredom set in early.  Keep children engaged with some of the activities we have compiled that are happening around town.

  • Open Gymnastics

Where/when?:  Champion Gymnastics, 240 Metty Dr. in Ann Arbor, Friday evening from 5-7 p.m.  Call 734-222-1810 for more information.

Why go?:  This is a great way for the kids to get exercise and sample all of the gym equipment.  Children five and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Pricing:  $10 per child

  • Dexter Farmers' Market Opening Day

Where/when?:  The Dexter Farmers' Market, located on Alpine Street, opens its  season Saturday at 8 a.m.  The market’s hours are Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Tuesdays from 3-7 p.m.

Why go?:  Kids 12 and under are invited to the market to decorate a flower pot and plant a flower for Mother’s Day.  The craft is free and available while supplies last.

Pricing:  Free

  • Amphibian and Reptile Walk

Where/when?:  , Saturday at 10 a.m.

Why go?:  Join an interpreter for a spring hike in search of amphibians and reptiles native to the park who are just now emerging from their winter naps.  Call 734-426-8211 for more information.

Pricing:  3$ per person plus park fees

  • Incredible Wild Edibles

Where/when?:  Gerald E. Eddy Discovery Center, 17030 Bush Rd. in Chelsea, Saturday, 1:30-3 p.m.

Why go?:  Learn all about the wild things you can pick, eat and even cook when you take a walk through Mother Nature’s kitchen with wild edibles expert Tom Jameson.  Tom will also share some of his gourmet recipes and cooking after the hike.  Space is limited. Advance registration is required by calling 734-475-7130.

Pricing:  $2 per person, $5 per family plus state park recreational passport

  • Mother’s Day Wildflower Hike

Where/when?:  Sunday at 1 p.m.

Why go?:  Take mom on a leisurely guided hike to discover all of the beautiful spring wildflowers.

Cost:  $3 per person, but moms are free.
