Kids Planner: Make Candy Apples at Chelsea's Fall Family Festival

Here's a look at some family-friendly events this week around the Dexter area.

School is back in session, and the children need a break from hitting the books. Here are some of our top picks for weekend events near Dexter.

  • Dexter High School varsity and junior varsity field hockey

Where/when: Dexter High School, 4:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday. Varsity plays at 4:30 p.m., junior varsity plays at 6 p.m. at the high school.

  • 23rd annual Northville Victorian Festival

Where/when: Downtown Northville, Friday-Sunday.

Why go? This is a great family-friendly festival of art and history that includes Victorian-era entertainment such as live music, baseball games, food, parades and a farmers market. Visit the Northville Chamber of Commerce website for more information and festival hours.

  • Survival Saturday

Where/when: Kensington Nature Center, Kensington Metropark, 1 p.m. Saturday.

Why go? Learn how to find your way out of being lost, with or without a compass. If you have a compass, bring it along. This activity is for ages 10 and older. Call 248-685-1561 for more information.
