Dexter Community Schools officials refused to comment on the scores until after the district returns from spring break on April 11.

"Whether or not the MEAP test is the best test to measure school performance, I don't know. The test serves as a baseline to let administrators know if a program is working or not, and if it is working, how can they improve on it?"

Ouimet said he has had several opportunities to meet with teachers in the district and feels the schools are performing exceptionally well.

"I am extremely impressed with the schools in the 52nd District," Ouimet said. "The teachers and administrations work hard to ensure our students receive a high quality education."

MEAP scores are one of the criteria used to evaluate a school's progress under the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
