Memorial Day Parade Planned for Monday

With area schools on holiday for Memorial Day weekend, Dexter Patch has your guide to fun family-friendly activities in the area.
- Crafts and Movies
Where/when: Dexter District Library, Friday 10 a.m. to noon
Why go?: School is out so take some time to enjoy the library. Kids can enjoy a movie and drop-in crafts. Craft is from 10 a.m. to noon. The movie, Karate Kid will begin at 11 a.m. No registration is required. Call the library at 734-426-4477 for more information.

- Trout Fishing
Where/when: Spring Valley Trout Farm, 12190 Island Lake Rd., Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why go?: Remember when you caught your first fish? Share that same experience with your kids at Spring Valley Trout Farm. For a small fee, you get the use of a cane pole and bait and the farm’s picnic facilities and grills. This is fun for the whole family. Call 734-426-4772 for more information.
Cost: $5 per person, non-fishermen are $4.
- Family Fun Tri-Atheletes
Where/when: Kensington Metropark, 2240 W Buno Rd. in Milford, Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
Why go?: The whole family (ages five and up) can enjoy a beautiful day of fun and exercise. Start the day with a 20-minute hay ride, followed by a 30-minute hike and then a canoe trip on the Huron River, paddling back to the farm center for lunch. Registration is required. Cost: $20, kids ages six to 12 are half price.
- Dexter’s Annual Memorial Day Parade
Where/when: 10 a.m. to noon on Monday; the parade takes place down Main Street
Why go?: Pack up the whole family, slather on the sunscreen and head into town to celebrate Memorial Day at the annual Memorial Day parade.

- Knights of Columbus Chicken Broil
Where/when: 8265 Dexter-Chelsea Rd., Monday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Why go?: Pack up the kids and head out to support this fundraiser benefitting U.S. veterans while socializing with your neighbors.
Pricing: The meal will consist of half a chicken breast, baked potato, cole slaw and beverages for $9
