National Pie Day: How Do You Prefer Your Pie?

Vote in our poll and share your favorite pie stories or recipes with Patch.

Today is a holiday many food lovers would enjoy celebrating.

It's National Pie Day!

The American Pie Council created the day to celebrate the heritage of this classic American dessert. It offers suggestions for marking the day, like bringing a pie to your local police or fire departments to show your appreciation for their service, bringing a pie to work, or making pie with your kids.

And, of course, you can just eat pie.

Let's talk pie. Dexter Patch reader Vickie Bennett told us her favorite pie was heated Dutch Appl, while Phyllis Risdon said her favorite was blueberry.

Vote in our poll for your favorite pie. If your favorite isn't there, share it in the comments. Also share your favorite pie-related memories, like your grandmother's mincemeat pie at Christmas, or your favorite pie recipes.

My grandma used to make the best mincemeat pie there was. Grandpa was a hunter and there was plenty of venison available for the pie. That was years ago when mincemeat pie actually had meat in it. Like Grandma, I have become a pie maker, in fact, I specialize in pies, selling them from my bakery, Owl Hollow Bakery, located in Dexter. I also sell them at Saline's Winter Farmers' Market every Saturday (9-12) until the end of April and at Dexter's Farmers' Market Saturday (8-1) and Tuesday (3-7), beginning in May. You can also order from my website: owlhollowbakery.com. Happy National Pie Day!!!
