News Briefly: Church Hosts Festival of Hymns; County Conducts Citizens Police Academy

Here's a look at some upcoming events in and around Dexter.

Festival of Hymns planned for April

of Dexter is inviting the public to its Festival of Hymns at 4 p.m. April 3. Hymns from the ages, from the fourth century through the 20th century, will be  presented.

In addition, the Liberty Brass Quintet, the combined choirs of St. Andrew's and , the St. Andrew's Handbell Choir, along with congregational participation, will fill the sanctuary with hymns of faith.

An "afterglow reception" will follow the program in St. Andrew's Fellowship Hall. A free-will offering will be accepted. St. Andrew's is located at 7610 Ann Arbor St. in Dexter.

Citizens Police Academy

The will conduct its annual Citizens Police Academy beginning March 23. Residents can learn everything from helping deputies working in the community to solve crimes to manning the cell blocks. Some of the areas of training include: investigation of serious and fatal crashes, traffic-stop protocol, K-9 abilities and uses, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), criminal investigations and advanced investigations, evidence collection, computer forensics and metro dispatch.

The academy will take place from 6-9 p.m. every Wednesday until May 25. The venue will be at our main station on Hogback Road in Ann Arbor.
