Educational Foundation changes venue for March 19 event

The Educational Foundation of Dexter (EFD) will hold its 2011 gala auction March 19 at the Ann Arbor Country Club, 4699 E. Loch Alpine Dr. in Ann Arbor, due to the of the North Point Seafood & Steakhouse.

“We are excited that we are able to hold our annual event in this beautiful space located within the Dexter school district,” said Jennifer Sortor, co-chairwoman of the auction. “Our thanks go to Mike Weikle at the country club, who was able to make this happen so quickly."

The location will allow the EFD to showcase its numerous auction donations, including a chocolate labradoodle puppy.

“We appreciate that the EFD wants their auction to remain a Dexter community event, and we are honored that they chose us,” said Weikle, the country club's executive manager. “We look forward to showcasing the culinary talents of our new kitchen staff and helping the foundation hold a memorable event.”

State Rep. Mark Ouimet to host town hall meeting

Local taxpayers can learn about the most effective way to appeal their property tax assessment at a town hall meeting on March 8 in Scio Township hosted by state Rep. Mark Ouimet (R-Scio Township).

The event takes place 6-8 p.m. at the Washtenaw Intermediate School District building, 819 S. Wagner Rd. 

"I encourage local homeowners to attend this informative meeting," Ouimet said.  "Appealing your property tax assessment is a fundamental right, and we'll show attendees the step-by-step process to make the best case to your local board."

State Rep. Tom McMillin (R-Rochester Hills), a property tax expert, will also attend the meeting to discuss the process to properly appeal property tax assessments.  Residents do not need to register for the event.  For more information about the town hall meeting, call 855-627-5052 or e-mail markouimet@house.mi.gov.

Walk set for Saturday

The Healthy Communities walking program in Dexter will hold a walk through town beginning at the at 10 a.m. Saturday. The walk is free and open to the public. Participants should plan to walk two miles and dress appropriately for the weather.
