News Briefly: State Representative to Visit with Seniors; Comic Book Artist Hosts Workshop; Health Coalition to Meet

Here is a look at some upcoming events around Dexter.

State Rep. Mark Ouimet to meet with seniors

State Rep. Mark Ouimet, R-52nd District, will visit the at 9 a.m. Friday to update residents on the latest activity in Lansing and address any concerns seniors may have about the direction of the state.

"With the governor's budget proposal now public, many senior citizens have questions about how the plan may affect them," Ouimet said. "These special office hours will give area seniors a convenient opportunity to visit with me personally."

Cartoon Artist Coming to Dexter Library

On  March 19, the will host professional cartoon artist Jerzy Drozd, who will discuss how cartoonists use drawings, panel sizes and crazy sound effects to immerse readers in the story. Drozd will lead the audience in an interactive discussion on some of the fundamental comics storytelling principles, after which participants will be invited to create short comics stories of their own.

This free, hands-on workshop runs from 2-3:30 p.m. and is open to teens and children, Grade 4 and older. To register and for further information, call the library at 734-426-4477 or e-mail dalson@dexer.lib.mi.us.

Dexter Wellness Coalition meeting

The Dexter Wellness Coalition will meet at 7 p.m. March 29 at the to review the Chelsea-Area Wellness Foundation's 5 Healthy Towns initiative and how it could benefit Dexter. For more information, e-mail info@5healthytowns.org.
