News Briefs: Joplin Relief, Ice Cream Social Planned

Here is a look at some upcoming community events in Dexter.

Joplin Relief Project

Connexions Church in Dexter is sponsoring a Joplin Relief Project on July 30-31 to help residents in Joplin, MO, who were devastated by a tornado May 22.

The church will park a trailer to collect donations from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. July 30 at and from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. July 31 at . The Dexter community is invited to drop off items that are still needed by the people of Joplin, including: nonperishable food, paper products, bedding, cleaning products, diapers and baby formula.

Volunteers from Connexions Church will be available to answer questions and load donated items into the trailer. All supplies will be delivered to Joplin during the first week in August.

St. Andrew's Ice Cream Social

in Dexter will hold its annual ice cream social from 4-8 p.m. Aug. 4 in the church's Fellowship Hall.

The German-American menu includes knockwurst and sauerkraut, German and American potato salad, baked beans, hot dogs, sloppy joes, fruit cups, beverages and ice cream and toppings along with free cake with the meal purchase. The menu is a la carte.
