In Case of Emergency: Open on Christmas Day

If you need a carton of milk, batteries, a movie to rent, read on for your emergency (sort of) survival guide.

Oops! The in-laws are staying with you over the holiday and you wake up Christmas morning realizing your guests like half-and-half in their coffee, and you're out. Or you find you ran out of batteries for the remote control — no one will be happy with that one. Where to go, should a last-minute surprise pop up? We have suggestions.

Dexter Mobil Mart

7177 Dexter-Ann Arbor Rd., Dexter
734-424-0690
Whether you need to fuel up on gas, fountain drinks, coffee or snacks, consider the Mobil Mart, open 6 a.m.-11 p.m. Christmas Day.

Food Zone

7023 Dexter-Ann Arbor Rd., Dexter
734-426-3410
When the neighbor's dogs devoured the turkey in A Christmas Story, the family opted to dine at a Chinese restaurant. That logic sticks: Food Zone will be open from 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Christmas Day, perfect for those with a hankering for a spring roll, fried rice, sesame chicken and more.

7065 Dexter Ann Arbor Rd., Dexter
734-424-9630
Foggy Bottom is open from 8:30-10 a.m. on Christmas Day. Stop by for a cup of holiday Joe after unwrapping gifts with the family. Also, it'll be a good spot to pick up a really-last-minute present for any forgotten coffee lover on your list.

Mugg & Bopps

2940 Baker Rd., Dexter
734-426-4075
It's a convenience store, and Mugg & Bopps is conveniently open 24 hours daily, including Christmas Day, so whether you need to fill your tank, pick up snacks or other necessities, they'll be there for you.

If you need peace and quiet, for yourself or the whole gang, find refuge in Mother Nature's arms:

Hudson Mills Metropark

8801 N. Territorial Rd., Dexter
734-426-8211
www.metroparks.com
The Huron-Clinton Metroparks are open and waiving park admission on Christmas, as it's "Appreciation Day." Pay no vehicle entry or boat launch fees that day and take a little respite in the great outdoors. Park hours are 7 a.m.-8 p.m.

If you must be entertained with something out of Hollywood, how about venturing out for a show:

Movie Planet

7050 Dexter-Ann Arbor Rd.
734-424-2525
Movie Planet won't be open Christmas Day, but they will be open Christmas Eve, so stop in and pick up something to watch. They'll be open untill 11 p.m. Christmas Eve, unless it's slow; then they'll shutter their doors for the night around 9 p.m.

Goodrich Quality Theaters

3686 Jackson Rd., Ann Arbor
734-623-7469
www.gqti.com
Whether you want to see the new Muppets movie, War Horse, or the Adventures of Tintin, Goodrich Quality Theaters has plenty of showtimes lined up Christmas afternoon and evening. Tickets range from $6.25 to $9.50.

Michigan Theater

603 E. Liberty St., Ann Arbor
734-668-8397
www.michtheater.org
Temple Beth Emeth presents a special animated double feature, The Prince of Egypt and Joseph: King of Dreams, playing 10:30 a.m. Dec. 25. Doors open at 10 a.m., and the first movie starts at 10:30 a.m. Cost is $7.50 in advance, or $8 at the door. Door prizes and special concession items will be available as well.

The Michigan Theater is also showing The Artist at 3 p.m., 6:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., A Christmas Carol at 4 p.m., and The Descendants at 6 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. Ticket prices for Michigan Theater movies are $10 general admission; $8 students with ID, veterans, seniors and children under 12; $7.50 for members.

Thanks for the list! We have a tradition of eating at Chinese restaurants on Christmas Day too. Often we are there with a lot of Jewish families! LOL
