Outdoor Movies Add to Fun Family Entertainment

Chelsea and Pinckney will screen free movies for teens and children this week.

  • ‘No Child Left Inside’ Camp

Where/when: Hudson Mills Metropark Activity Center, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday-Friday.

Why go? Children will have the opportunity to get outside and explore nature through a variety of activities and outdoor games, including a balloon toss and scavenger hunt. They will also get to make ice cream. Children will get a close-up look at aquatic life, reptiles, bugs and a variety of other wildlife. Call 734-426-8211 for more information and to register.

  • SRSLY Cinema in Chelsea: Napoleon Dynamite

Where/when: The lawn behind the clock tower in downtown Chelsea, starting at 9 p.m. Thursday.

Why go? See a funny movie under the stars with your teens. Pack up bug spray and blankets or chairs to get comfortable. There will be concessions available for purchase.

Pricing: Suggested $1 donation

  • Michigan Challenge Balloonfest XXVII

Where/when: Howell High School complex, 1200 W. Grand River Ave. in Howell, 4-10 p.m. Friday; 6 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday; and 6 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday.

Why go? See up to 50 hot air balloons on display and taking to the sky. There will be lots of great family fun including a carnival, arts festival, three entertainment venues, stunt kites, a dog show and more. Visit michiganchallenge.com for more information and specific launch times.

Pricing: Daily pass, $12; weekend pass, $20

  • Friday Night Music in the Park

Where/when: Monument Park, 6:30-10 p.m. Friday.

Why go? Treat the whole family to a fun night of music and dancing in the park. This week’s featured band is The Back Beats, a Beatles tribute band.

Cost: Free

  • Pinckney Movies in the Park, The Muppet Movie

Where/when: Putnam Township Square in Pinckney on Friday at dusk.

Why go? Pack up the little ones and enjoy a movie under the stars.
