Registration Underway for Dexter's Holiday Hustle 5K

The annual holiday relay will take place in downtown Dexter on Dec. 1, with proceeds benefiting local charities.

Area shoppers can take a break from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season to release some stress and tension during the Village of Dexter's annual "Holiday Hustle" 5K on Dec. 1.

The race will take place beginning at Monument Park in downtown Dexter as part of the community's "Home for the Holidays" winter festival activities.

Registration for the 5K or 1-mile fun run is open through noon on Nov. 29. The fee is $29 for ages 18 and up, and $24 for participants under 18. The 1-mile fun run registration fee is $24 for ages 18 and up, and $15 for participants under the age of 18. The registration fee includes a free T-shirt.

"The race grows in popularity every year," Angela Justice, events coordinator for Running Fit in Ann Arbor said. "We offered a prize incentive for the first 500 registrants and we're currently closing on 1,000."

Similiar to previous years, Justice said race participants who bring a nonperishable food item to donate to Faith in Action, will receive a raffle ticket for prizes ranging from gift cards, to hats, socks, and gloves.

"Every nonperishable item gets you a ticket," Justice said.

Runners can register online at http://holiday5k.runningfitsites.com/ and at Monument Park on the day of the race. Race bibs can be picked up at Running Fit, 5700 Jackson Ave. in Scio Township, Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and at Monument Park in Dexter at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The race begins at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by an awards ceremony and raffle drawing at the park.
