Scio Township Man Charged in Hit and Run Death Released on Bond

Kevin Warren will go before the court in a preliminary hearing on Aug. 16

A preliminary hearing will be held on Aug. 16 for the driver of an SUV that struck and killed Ann Arbor real estate agent Gary Lillie on Thursday.

According to Ann Arbor.com, Kevin Warren, 43, of Scio Township, was arraigned on Saturday on charges of operating while intoxicated causing death and failing to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death. If convicted, Warren faces a maximum of 15 years in prison on each charge.

The that Warren was traveling eastbound on Marshall Road near Baker Road at 11:30 p.m. Thursday when he struck Lillie from behind, throwing him in a ditch. According to the sheriff, Warren allegedly left the scene and drove home before calling 911.

Sgt. Beth Gieske of the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department said Warren was arrested after failing to pass a preliminary breath test.

Lillie, 70, was best known for his local Veterans Radio program, which airs every Saturday morning at 9 a.m. on 990 AM and online at veteransradio.net.

Rick Taylor of Chelsea, a friend of Lillie's, said he was devastated upon hearing news of Lillie’s death.

“He was a real nice guy,” Taylor said. “To go your entire life and then fall victim to this type of tragedy is just sad."

Warren was released from jail Sunday on a $2,500 bond, the News reports.
