Second Annual Festival of Races Scheduled for Saturday

Outdoor games encourage Dexter families to exercise together.

Registration for the second annual Festival of Races at  is underway, and event organizers said they are gearing up for an exciting year.

"Registration has been going great. We usually get between 120-250 people at our events. We are at 128 right now and we will probably get between 30-50 on the day of the event, so we will be right around 200 this year," event coordinator Robert Jazwinski said.

The event features a 1-mile fun run, 5K run/walk, 10K run, and kids races (potato sack race and egg and spoon race) throughout the afternoon on Saturday. Activities kick-off at 8 a.m. and races are open to all ages and abilities.

"We want to offer fitness activities for people of all ability levels to participate in.  Our overall goal is to have everyone in Dexter exercising on the weekend together – be it running, walking, soccer, rock climbing, etc.," Jazwinski said.

An avid runner himself, Jazwinski said he and his wife Katie try to participate in races at least twice a month to stay fit.

"We love the festive, healthy and energetic environments these type of events create.  It’s an opportunity for the entire family to get out and exercise," he said.

The cost for the event is $10 for high school students and children (pre-registration only), and $30 for adults. T-shirts will be given to the first 150 registered participants. Registration forms can be downloaded online at www.jazzrunning.com.

Refreshments, prize drawings and music will be provided. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Hudson Mills Metropark. Bobblehead trophies will be awarded to overall and age group winners.
