Superhero Fans Can Get Up Close With Iron Man

Here is a look at some of the family-friendly events going on around Dexter this weekend.

We've assembled a calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children.

Each week, we'll give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the weekend.

You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

  • MOVIE DAY FEATURING THE LITTLE MERMAID

Where/When: , Thursday at 11 a.m.

Why go?: Toddler and preschool-aged kids are invited to pack a pillow, a blanket and a cuddly friend and head to the library for a great afternoon of The Little Mermaid and some tasty snacks. Call the library for more information at 734-426-4477.

  • MODEL MAGIC CRAFT AND SNACKS

Where/When: , Friday 3-4:30 p.m.

Why go?: Kids in grades five through 12 can enjoy an afternoon of creativity with Crayola Model Magic and make just about anything. Registration for this event is required. Call the library for more information at 734-426-4477.

Pricing: Free

  • KIDS MOVIES AT QUALITY 16 THEATER

Where/When: Quality 16 Movie Theater, 3686 Jackson Rd. in Ann Arbor. Showtimes are Saturday and Sunday, 9 and 10 a.m.

Why go?: Quality 16 has started its spectacular free spring movie lineup. This weekend, take the kids to see Gulliver’s Travels.

Pricing: Free

  • MEET MARVEL COMICS' IRON MAN

Where/When: Dress up as your favorite superhero and meet Iron Man at Xtreme Bounce Zone, 82 Aprill Dr. in Ann Arbor, Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why go?: Kids will have a blast bouncing, enjoying pizza and drinks (included in bounce admission) and chatting with superhero Iron Man. 

Pricing: Walkers 5 and under, $5.  Kids 6 and up, $7.

  • CREEPY CRITTERS

Where/When: Conservancy Creatures event, Gerald E. Eddy Discovery Center in Chelsea, Saturday from 2-3 p.m.

Why go?: Meet, visit with and learn about some fascinating animals. Steve Marsh of the Creature Conservancy will introduce you to a kangaroo, a laughing kookaburra, a venomous gila monster and a skunk that doesn’t stink. Registration is required. Call 734-475-3170.

Pricing:  $2 per person or $5 per family.
