Top 10 Best War Movies for Memorial Day

Dexter Patch has put together a list of classic war films that highlight the sacrifices of America's military men and woman.

For a lot of people, Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of the summer travel season. For others, it is a time to stop and reflect on the sacrifices men and women in America's military have made in the name of freedom.

In my family, many of my uncles served in the military, many of whom were deployed during World War II and the Korean War.

Growing up, I remember my grandpa was always fascinated with war movies. One story my siblings and I fondly remember involved my grandpa walking up and down the aisles of the local Blockbuster chanting "war, war, war" as he browsed the military films section.

I threw this one in just for fun. After being deemed unfit for military service, Steve Rogers volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into Captain America, a superhero dedicated to defending the USA's ideals.

10. The Bridge on the River Kwai

After settling his differences with a Japanese PoW camp commander, a British colonel co-operates to oversee his men's construction of a railway bridge for their captors - while oblivious to a plan by the Allies to destroy it.
