Upcoming Events at the Dexter Senior Center

Here is a look at some events happening at the Dexter Senior Center in September.

Pretzel volunteers sought

The will be selling its famous pretzels at the on Sunday. The center is looking for volunteers to help make and sell pretzels. Rollers will begin at 7 a.m. Call Director Kim Martini at 734-426-7737 to help out.

Foot care service

Ava Passino, a registed nurse with Nurses Foot Care Services is at the Dexter Senior Center the fourth Wednesday of each month. Nurses Foot Care Services provides preventive, basic foot care. Her next scheduled day is Sept. 28. All members of the Dexter Senior Center receive $3 off their first appointment. The fee for this service is $36. Acrylic painting class offered

Steve Wood will host an acrylic painting class at the Dexter Senior Center on Oct. 7. Register by calling 734-426-7737. The center needs eight participants registered in order to hold this class. This class is a step-by-step approach with Wood painting alongside students. All materials are provided. The cost for this two-hour class is $22 for members and $27 for non-members.  There will be no acrylic painting class in September.

Important information on Medicare

The dates for open enrollment for Medicare Part D (prescription drug plans) will be different this year. The Dexter Senior Center anticipates open enrollment will take place on Oct. 15-Nov. 30 with all plans taking effect Jan. 1, 2012. Mary Ellen is available at the Dexter Senior Center on Wednesday mornings by appointment to help with Medicare questions. 

Root beer floats and homecoming parade

The Dexter Homecoming Parade will take place on Sept. 30 at 2 p.m.  Once again this year residents will be treated to root beer floats beginning at 1:30 p.m. Seniors can watch the parade in front of the senior center. Remember to bring a lawn chair and wear maroon and gold.

Volunteer drivers sought

Volunteer drivers are currently needed to deliver Meals-on-Wheels to homebound seniors in the Dexter area. If you are interested in delivering a hot noon meal to a homebound older adult in the Dexter area and can volunteer two hours in a day, call Cindy Zeigler at 734-426-5397.
