Village of Dexter Gives Instructions on Clearing Debris, Dealing wih Contractors and More

Village says dumpsters are being delivered to impacted areas.

The following information was provided by the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office:

The situation related to the storm that passed through Dexter is stabilizing. The emergency response system has functioned as it was designed, starting with the activation of the emergency siren and the response of first responders immediately following the storms. We are blessed that there were no serious injuries as a result of this storm; however there is significant property damage in many areas. We are now moving into the assessment, public information and clean-up phase of the response.  Local officials from the Village of Dexter and Dexter Township are coordinating response efforts to the event with the Washtenaw County Sherriff’s office and other first responding agencies (local, state and federal).

Village services

Please direct all calls related to Village services (including water, sewer, tree repair, sidewalks, streets, and flooding) to 734-426-8303. Questions regarding Township services should be directed to 734-475-2628 or 734-260-5875.

Village water and sewer services are functioning normally and were not affected by the storm.

DTE is working to restore power to the impacted areas. Please assume all down power lines are “live” with electricity. If you see a downed power line that is not being serviced by a DTE crew or smell gas please call 1-800-477-4747.

At this time, the situation is manageable and is being handled by teams of professionals. While we appreciate the offer of volunteers, at this time they are not being allowed into the area due to safety and security concerns. As we assess the situation and determine what resources are necessary we will be reaching out to organizations and volunteers.

Neighborhood cleanup

Dumpsters are being delivered to the impacted areas. If you are trying to clean up your property on your own, please haul all debris to the curb, but do not place it in the street. Department of Public Works crews will be loading the debris into dumpsters.

If you have a crew coming to repair damage to your home please make sure that the contractor has a work order with your name, address and a description of the work. Companies without work orders are not being allowed past police check points.
