Village Plans Songs, Slams and S'Mores Event

Here's a look at some weekend family-friendly activities in the Dexter area.

As the school year begins to wind down, students inevitably will be looking for fun things to do on the weekend. Here is a list of some happenings in and around Dexter this weekend.

  • Dexter Dreadnaught Baseball

Where/when:  The junior varsity team meets Tecumseh at home at 4 p.m. Thursday and Hartland at home at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Why go? This is a great opportunity to spend quality time with the family and spend an afternoon supporting Dexter sports.

Cost: Free

  • Parents’ Night Out

Where/when: Champion Gymnastics, 6-9 p.m. Saturday.

Why go? The children will have a great time and get exercise. There will be pizza, crafts and plenty of open gym time. Parents will have an equally great time enjoying a night out. Call Champion Gymnastics at 734-222-1810 for more information.

Cost:  $20 per child or $35 per family.

  • Songs, Slams and S’mores

Where/when: Community Park, 3575 Ryan Dr. in Dexter, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday.

Why go? The village of Dexter Arts Culture and Heritage Committee invites everyone to enjoy an evening of  poetry reading, s’mores and even a drum circle. 

Cost:  Free

  • Dinosaur Tours

Where/when: The University of Michigan Exhibit Museum of Natural History, 2 p.m. Saturday.

Why go? Join museum staff on a free 30-minute tour of dinosaur country in this interactive exhibit.

Pricing: Free

  • Life in a Beehive

Where/when: Gerald E. Eddy Discovery Center in Chelsea, 2-3 p.m. Sunday.

Why go? Children and adults of all ages will learn all about bees when educator Jane Levy presents her program about how bees work together to make honey.  Children will even have the opportunity to try on a beekeeper’s suit. Levy will be available to discuss setting up your own hive. 

Cost: $2 per person, $5 per family.
