Volunteers Needed for Christmas Eve Luminaria Project in Dexter

Volunteers will assemble assemble and deliver luminary kits on Dec. 8.

Organizers with the village of Dexter's annual Christmas Eve luminaria display are looking for a few good men and women to lend a hand with this year's event.

Volunteers are needed on Dec. 8 beginning at 9 a.m. to help assemble and deliver the luminary kits.

Assembly will take place at the DPW building, 3600 Central St. Delivery drivers should arrive at 10 a.m.

The luminaria is organized by the Dexter Area Chamber of Commerce, but is funded through community donations. The 2012 luminaria is sponsored by Fink Law, Cartridge World of Ann Arbor, and CallYourHelpDesk.com.

The luminaria display began in 1985, when residents Doris Waggoner and Betty Steinaway set out candles along Central, Fourth, Ann Arbor, Broad and Baker streets. Since then, the project has been taken over by the DACC and now includes the entire village.
