Weekend Planner: Take in a Musical in Dexter

Looking for fun things to do over the next few days? Let us help.

It's Friday, and there are plenty of fun events going on this weekend, so we're offering up a planner to give you a head start. Let's begin our countdown of things-to-do:

Dexter Knights of Columbus Rummage Sale

  • Where:
  • When: 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday
  • Pricing: No admission.
  • Why go?: Shop for deals and help the Knights of Columbus. Every day will have great deals. Clothing drops to $3 a bag Friday, with other discounts, and on the final day it's $2 a bag.

Head to Smokey Joe's Cafe

  • Where:
  • When: Show runs through Feb. 26, with performances 7 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays, 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. An 8 p.m. show is planned Saturday. An opening night party is planned for Friday, where guests can mingle with cast and crew and enjoy appetizers and a cash bar at Terry B's.
  • Pricing: $25-$32; group rates available, too.
  • Why go?: The Encore presents another sizzling show, this time enjoy classic hits from the 1950s like "Jailhouse Rock" and more, paired with some fabulous dancing.

The Music Man

  • Where:
  • When: 7 p.m. Feb. 3-4 and Feb. 10-11, and 2 p.m. Feb. 5
  • Pricing: $10 adults, $8 students
  • Why go?: See the Dexter High School Drama Club sing and dance their hearts out with their production of The Music Man.

Bird Hike

  • Where:
  • When: 8 a.m. Saturday
  • Pricing: $3 per person. Registration required. Call 734-426-8211 or 800-477-3191 to sign up.
  • Why go?: Spend a day in the great outdoors with a winter excursion at the park. You'll hike, hunt for birds (with your binoculars) and explore various habitats.

Library book sale

  • Where:
  • When: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday
  • Pricing: No admission
  • Why go?: Stop in at the Friends of the Dexter District Library used book sale for great deals on books and beyond.

More events

  • A Stone Carver continues at the Purple Rose. 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturday, with a 3 p.m. matinee Saturday and a 2 p.m. show Sunday. Tickets are $25-$40.
  • Super Bowl Breakfast is planned 9 a.m. Saturday at Hear MSU and U-M coaches and athletes discuss their faith and how it transcends their rivalries. No charge, but donations will be accepted toward a mission trip.
