Weekend Planner: A Salute, Shopping and a Show

Here's a look at what's happening around town this weekend.

It's Friday, and that means the weekend is finally here! What to do? Let Patch help you plan.

Veterans Day Celebration

  • Where: Veterans Park, at North Main and Sibley, Chelsea
  • When: 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. today
  • Pricing: Free
  • Why Go: Celebrate Veterans Day in Chelsea. Col. James Coolican and Mayor Jason Lindauer will be present, along with area veterans, for the dedication of a memorial bench, a salute to the fallen and patriotic songs. A ceremony will follow at noon at the Comfort Inn located at 1645 Brown Road, where veterans, family and friends will gather to share stories, enjoy refreshments and view Chelsea District Library's World War II documentary.

Escanaba in da Moonlight

  • Where: Purple Rose Theatre, 137 Park St., Chelsea
  • When: 8 p.m. tonight, 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday
  • Pricing: $25-$40
  • Why Go: See Escanaba in da Moonlight, the story of one man's attempt to break his curse of never catching a buck, with zany complications getting in his way.

Saline Craft Show

  • Where:
  • When: 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday
  • Pricing: $3 admission
  • Why Go: We know, it's over in Saline, but at this show you'll browse more than 200 booths full of arts and craft items -- including the works of several local artisans -- plus buy baked goods, and much more. Concessions will be available, and guests can enter raffle drawings. The event benefits Saline Area Youth Programs.

Wine, Women & Shopping

  • Where: Downtown Chelsea
  • When: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday
  • Pricing: Mostly free, unless you shop or take advantage of wine tastings ($3 for three glasses)
  • Why go: This Saturday downtown Chelsea belongs to the fairer sex, as the sixth annual Wine, Women & Shopping event returns, full of promotions, prize giveaways, special displays and goodies, plus vine times (of course). Shop, sip, socialize, and perhaps get a head start on holiday shopping.
