Weekend Planner: Dexter Arts Center to Host Halloween Mask Workshop

From spooky Halloween fun crafts to Civil War exhibits, this weekend is a great opportunity to spend time with the kids in and around the Dexter area. Here are some of our top picks for the weekend.

1. Halloween Mask Workshop

Where/When: , 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday.

Why go?: Children and teens can enjoy a spooktacular Halloween mask-making workshop. Artist Paul Wensel will teach youths how to create a fun 3-D mask to hang in their room or share with friends and family in time for Halloween. Participants can register for either workshop by calling the arts center at 734-265-0283. An adult must accompany all children ages 6-10.

Pricing: The cost for the workshop is $10 and includes all materials.

2. Dexter Wellness Walk

Where/When: The walk will start in front of the at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Why go?: Come hang out with friends and neighbors and celebrate the beauty of fall in Dexter. Participants can choose three separate paths—1 mile, 2.5 miles and 5 miles—which will take them on a scenic tour of the village. The first 100 participants will receive a free T-shirt.

3. Purse and Jewelry Sale

Where/When: The , 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday.

Why go?: Moms and daughters can enjoy an afternoon of shopping together in this fun event featuring new and vintage jewelry and slightly used handbags. All proceeds benefit senior center activities.

Pricing: Items are priced individually to sell. Items on the kids' table are 50 cents an ounce.

4. Fall Fest & Craft Show

Where/When: St. Mary's Catholic Church, Chelsea, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.

Why go?: Forty-seven crafters and artists will be selling their work. There will also be a bake sale and door prizes every half hour. Four gift baskets valued at $400-$500 each will be raffled off.

5. Civil War Exhibit

Where/When: The Museum on Main Street, 500 N. Main St. in Ann Arbor, noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Why go?: See an authentic Civil War tent, uniforms, flags and drums. Learn about the role that Washtenaw County played in the Civil War.
