Weekend Planner: Birds, Guns and 'Muppets,' Oh My!

Friday's here, and we want to make the best of weekend fun. With that, here are some ideas of what's happening around town:

Wildlife of the Americas

  • Where:
  • When: 11 a.m., Friday
  • Pricing: Free
  • Why go?: The library hosts a special live animal program, perfect for all ages, where Randy Baker of Naturalist Endeavors will present "Wildlife of the Americas." Come in and visit with the critters. Call 734-426-4477 if you have questions.

Bird Hike at Hudson Mills

  • Where:
  • When: 8 a.m., Saturday
  • Pricing: $3 per person. Remember, the metroparks charge a per-vehicle entry fee, which is $5 if you don't already have an annual pass.
  • Why go?: Head out early Saturday morning for a hike at Hudson Mills. Bring your binoculars so you can wander the trails with the group and spot our feathered friends. A number of habitats will be explored, and this will help track bird trends.

The Huron Collectors Gun Show

  • Where: Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds, 5055 Ann Arbor-Saline Rd., Ann Arbor.
  • When: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday
  • Pricing: $6 admission
  • Why go?: The Huron Collectors Gun Show makes its way to the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds this weekend. Check out the latest in all things gun-related. On a side note, there will be remote control car racing 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday at the site; no charge to watch the action.

Family Friendly Film Series

  • Where: Michigan Theater, 603 W. Liberty St., Ann Arbor
  • When: 1:30 p.m., Sunday
  • Pricing: Free for kids 12 and younger, or $7.50-$10 otherwise.
  • Why go?: Enjoy a family friendly film at the Michigan Theater. Hang out on a cold January afternoon with Kermit, Miss Piggy and the gang as they star in 1979's The Muppets Movie.

More events

  • Book bargains await you at the , from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.
  • A Winter Tracking program will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Eddy Discovery Center, Waterloo Recreation Area, 17030 Bush Rd. in Chelsea. The program is free, but a recreation passport is required to enter the park.
