Weekend Planner: Head Outdoors for Civil War Days, Dexter Wellness Walk

Here's a look at some family-friendly events happening around the Dexter area this weekend.

The warm weather is a great excuse to head outdoors and enjoy a weekend with the kids. Dexter Patch has put together a list of some of the activities happening in the area June 9-10.

Where/When: 8347 Island Lake Road, Dexter. Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why go?: The Dexter Area Historical Society is hosting Civil War Days to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War. Learn about life in the Union and Confederate military. Demonstrations, children's games, and live music abound in this weekend event.

Pricing: Suggested donation of $10 for adults and $8 for children.

  • Dexter Wellness Walk

Where/When: Walkers can meet up at the beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday. Dogs are welcome.

Why go?: This is a great way to connect with your community and get healthy.

Pricing: Free

Where/When: , 1-3 p.m. on Sunday.

Why go?: Kids, get outside and get hooked on fishing! Meet at the Rapids View area to try casting for a fish. Rods and reels, tackle and bait will be available or you can bring your own.

Pricing: $3 per rod and reel

  • Father's Day Crafts

Where/When: The will host a card-making workshop on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Why go?: What dad doesn't love a handmade card from their son or daughter?

Pricing: Free

 

Where/When: 7610 Ann Arbor St., 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Why go?: St. Andrew's United Church of Christ will hold its annual rummage sale at the church. A baked goods sale and light refreshments are also included. Clothing, small appliances, toys, furniture and household items are featured.
