Weekend Planner: Winter Fun at Hudson Mills, 'A Stone Carver' Opens in Chelsea

Looking for things to do this weekend around Dexter? Let Patch help you plan.

We're close to Friday, so why not start looking ahead a day early for weekend happenings in the area. With that, let's begin our planner:

A Stone Carver

  • Where: The Purple Rose Theatre Company, 137 Park St., Chelsea.
  • When: The show runs through March 10. This weekend there are shows at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, 3 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday.
  • Pricing: Tickets are $20 for Thursday, $35 for Friday night's press opening, $35 for the Saturday matinee and Sunday's show, and $40 for Saturday night.
  • Why go?:  A Stone Carver is a great way to spend a night out on the town with your loved one. The story follows a father and son who, do to unexpected circumstances, find themselves rekindling their relationship.

Interior lessons

  • Where:
  • When: 10 a.m. Saturday.
  • Pricing: Free, but registration is required. Call 734-426-4477.
  • Why Go: The library hosts U-M's Natural History Museum, which offers a program for the kids (6 and up, with an adult) on "How You Work." Kids will learn what they're made of and what all the statistics mean. It's free, fun, interactive and totally informative.

Winter fun at Hudson Mills

  • Where:
  • When: 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.
  • Pricing: $2-$6.50. $2 covers admission, and $6.50 includes lunch. A vehicle entry permit is also required, which is $5 for the day or you may opt to buy an annual pass.
  • Why go?: Enjoy an afternoon of "Chillin' at the Mills," with some winter fun in the mix. Some of the fun is weather dependent, but whether or not there's snow there will be plenty of fun to be had, including winter survival lessons, hot chocolate by the bonfire, crafts and more.

Winter Programs at Waterloo

  • Where: Eddy Discovery Center, Waterloo Recreation Area, 17030 Bush Rd., Chelsea.
  • When: 2 p.m. Saturday.
  • Pricing: Free with a year-long recreation passport ($10 for motor vehicles, $5 for motorcycles). Preregistration is preferred. Call 734-475-3170 or 734-475-8307.
  • Why go?: Explore some winter wonders as a park interpreter will show you what animals are up to in the winter time, where they hide, and how to identify leaves and shrubs when they have no leaves.
