What's Open, Closed On Labor Day in Dexter?

Labor Day is Monday, and while offices are closed and the barbecues are fired up, you still may need to get out and around the Dexter area. Here's what you need to know about what's open and closed.

Municipal offices

• Dexter Township: All departments, including the clerk's office, planning department and the treasurer's office will be closed Monday. Offices will reopen for regular business hours starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
• Dexter Village: All village offices will be closed Monday.
• Post office: The U.S. Post Office at 3140 Baker Road is closed and there will not be any mail delivery or pickup. The post office will reopen Tuesday for normal business hours.
• Trash collection: Trash collection will be delayed until Saturday, Sept.8.

Meeting Date Changes:

The Planning Commission meeting regularly scheduled for Sept. 3, will be held on Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Dexter Senior Center.

The Arts, Culture & Heritage Committee meeting regularly scheduled for Sept. 4 will be held on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Dexter District Library.

Around town

• Library: The will be closed Monday, but will reopen Tuesday at regular business hours. The Chelsea District Library will be closed Monday, but will re-open Tuesday during regular business hours.

• Grocery stores: All grocery stores, including and , will be open regular hours Monday.
• School Supplies: A little behind on those have-to's for the school year? Local stores like Meijer and Target will all be open.
•  Movies: Take a family trip to the movies this Labor Day. The Quality 16 theater is open Monday, with screenings beginning at 11 a.m. Now showing is Brave, Paranorman, Sparkle, The Dark Knight Rises, The Possession and (if you're not already tired of election season) The Campaign. Also try renting a movie at on Dexter-Ann Arbor Road.
• Exercise: Don't let the holiday be an excuse to miss your workout. will be open all day on Monday.
