Winter Programs Coming to Dexter District Library

The library will provide family-friendly events through December and January.

The is offering a lineup of fun winter events for children of all ages through December. Come in from the cold and enjoy all the warm programs the library will offer this winter.

On Dec. 17, celebrate the holidays with three special programs. A will be held at 11 a.m. on the lower level. Children of all ages are invited to listen to and participate in stories and songs about Santa Claus, Jack Frost, winter and the holidays. A simple craft will be offered following the program.

Also, at 11 a.m, a teen holiday craft and snack time will be held for kids and teens in grades five through 12 in the Story Time Room. This is an opportunity to make a last-minute gift for a friend or family member. Because space is limited, registration is required for the teen craft.

Following both programs, the library will host a live reindeer from Carousel Acres from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Parents are encouraged to bring their camera.

On Dec. 23, the library will host a family movie and popcorn event at 11 a.m. Get into the Christmas spirit with your friends, neighbors and family by watching a holiday movie while enjoying fresh popcorn. Due to licensing restrictions, the name of the film will not be released. Call the library at 734-426-4477 for more information.

The library will be closed on Dec. 24 and Dec. 25 for Christmas and will reopen at 9 a.m. on Dec. 26.

On Dec. 27 the library will host a "Super Smash Brothers" Nintendo Wii tournament from 11 a.m. to noon. The tournament is open to teens in grades six through 12. Come play this video game favorite with your friends while enjoying some light refreshments. Registration is not required.

Calling all girls ages 4 to 8. You are cordially invited to rejoice in the holiday season at 11 a.m. Dec. 28. Based on the New York Times bestseller Fancy Nancy by Jane O’Connor, attendees should come dressed up as fancy as they can (tiaras welcome), enjoy a tea party, crafts, games and participate in a fun fashion show. Space is limited so registration is required for this event.

On Dec. 29 the library will present another movie screening at 11 a.m. A “Teen Crafternoon” is also planned from 1-2 p.m. Teens in grades five through 12 are invited to come by and do a little creating for fun. Registration is required for this event.

On Dec. 30 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. the library will once again host a blood drive by the American Red Cross. Registration is available at www.redcrossblood.org. Enter the sponsor code "dexterlibrary."

The library will be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 and will reopen at 9 a.m. on Jan. 2.
