Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan set to invade Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor

We are holding our final Fab Five event and want our girls and adult volunteers to join in the fun.

YPSILANTI – Girls just want to have fun, but if they’re Girl Scouts they want to learn something while having fun.

The final event in Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan’s yearlong salute to the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts will give some of GSHOM’s more than 16,000 girls and 5,382 adult volunteers an opportunity to have some fun while learning about the
Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor area.

“Bridging to the Next Century” on March 2 is the fifth of five events sponsored by the Council.  The activities planned will take place at GSHOM’s new Ypsi/Ann Arbor Regional Center and the city of Ann Arbor.  The day’s festivities will culminate with a 7 p.m. concert at Hill Auditorium featuring Radio Disney’s N.B.T. Season Five winners Chloe and Halle Bailey.

“We are thrilled to welcome our girls and their families and volunteers to our new building. Our staff has lined up some amazing activities for them to enjoy,” said Jan Barker, ChiefExecutive Officer of GSHOM.  “We look forward to forging some deep and meaningful relationships with our new neighbors.  This event will be a great introduction for all who attend.”

Following a Bridging Ceremony scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Ypsi/Ann Arbor Regional Center, girls and adult volunteers will be able to talk to people from around the world courtesy of Ann Arbor’s Amateur Radio Club, test drive an iPad,or make a T-shirt tote bag – among other things.

They also will be able to visit the Ann Arbor District Library for Girl Scout storytelling, take the city’s Urban Fairy Door Tour, or travel around to various buildings on the University of Michigan’s campus where they will create their own works of art, learn how composting toilets work, dissect a cow eyeball or sheep brain, or make a dinosaur fossil.

Before the doors open at 6 p.m. for the concert, entertainment will be provided on the plaza in front of Hill Auditorium by jugglers and hulahoopers while GSHOM staff leads songs and games.

For more information or to register for the event visit the GSHOM website at www.gshom.org or call 1-800-497-2688.
