Obituary: Bertha “Betty” Louise Schultz

Bertha L. Schultz of Dexter died on Feb. 5, 2013.

Bertha “Betty” Louise Schultz, 101, of Dexter died peacefully on Feb. 5, 2013 in her home with her family at her side.

She was born Oct. 22, 1911 in Grape, Mich., the daughter of Friedrich and Louise Augusta (Fischer) Colvia.

Betty  has lived in Dexter since 1946, coming from Detroit. She was the Mid-Michigan Circuit Secretary for the Lutheran Women's Mission Society. As an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, Betty mailed cards to church visitors, and sent birthday cards and letters to church members.

On Oct. 26, 1929, she married Brenton W. Schultz in Taylor, and he preceded her in death on March 22, 1986. Survivors include a son, Brenton (Marcella) Schultz of Petoskey; a daughter, Marielayne Tenpenny (Raymond) Newell of Dexter; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Betty was preceded in death by Brenton Jr.’s twin, Robert; and grandson, Jessie; and three sisters, Elva Johnsen, Clara Ferry, and Elma Dove.

Funeral services will be held Feb. 9, at 10 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 9575 N Territorial Road, in Dexter, with Rev. Mark Porinsky officiating.

Burial will be at Washtenong Memorial Park in Ann Arbor. The family will receive friends at Cole Funeral Chapel on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m., and6 to 8  p.m.; and at the church Saturday from 9:30-10 a.m.
