Catalytic Converter Stolen from Vehicle in Chelsea

The following information was supplied by the Chelsea Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Chelsea Police are investigating reports of a theft of a catalytic converter from a vehicle parked near the Washtenaw Area Value Express Park and Ride near the intersection of M-52 and I-94 in Chelsea.

According to police records, the theft occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 6. The vehicle owner stated that he parked his vehicle around 8:30 a.m. and went to work, when he returned at around 12:30 p.m. he started up his vehicle and noticed that it was significantly louder than usual.

Upon further inspection officers determined that the catalytic converter had been cut out from underneath of the vehicle. While doing a canvass of the area it was determined that one other vehicle had its catalytic converter removed as well. No further information is available.

Warrant Arrest

On Dec. 3, the Chelsea Police Department was notified by the Washtenaw County Jail that a 33-year-old Dexter man wanted on suspicion of check forgery in the city was in custody for an unrelated crime.
