Dexter Twp. Man Arrested After Discharging Gun While Intoxicated

The following information was supplied by the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office arrested a Dexter Township man after he illegally discharged a gun while under the influence of alcohol at his home on Feb. 4.

According to police, deputies were dispatched to a home in the 8000 block of Second Street after receiving 911 reports of shots fired at the residence.

The police report states that deputies attempted to make contact with the homeowner with a vehicle PA system but were unsuccessful. Permission was then granted by a second homeowner to enter the house.

According to police, the suspect was located in the bedroom asleep and intoxicated. The shooter told officers he was shooting at "pole cats" outside. The man was arrestd and taken to jail for careless discharge of a weapon, possession of firearm under the influence, and possession of a short-barrelled shotgun.

On Feb. 15, deputies with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the 6000 block of Woodvine Drive in Dexter Township in response to a burglary alarm. According to police reports, the homeowner heard his alarm go off and discovered a downstairs sliding door ajar and his laptop missing from the counter.

Police said an unknown subject or suspects entered the victim's home while he was upstairs and stole his laptop and a couple of knives. The alarm may have scared the suspect away. The case is under investigation.
