Man Runs into Traffic on I-94 in Scio Township

Police say the man is bipolar and was not taking his medication.

A man is being treated for non-life threatening injuries at University of Michigan Hospital after running into traffic on I-94 near Zeeb Road on Friday afternoon.

According to the Michigan State Police, officers were sent to that area of the freeway in Scio Township to investigate calls about a man walking into traffic around 12:15 p.m.

According to the police report, when troopers tried to talk to the man, he ran into westbound traffic and was hit by a white car. The white card was then hit by a black car.

After being hit, the man got up and jumped over the median and into eastbound traffic, according to the report. Police caught up to him and told him to stop, but the man fought with the officers, and they eventually used a taser on him, according to the report.

The man told the officers that he was bipolar, not taking his medication and "wanted to die."

No one in the two cars involved in the incident were injured, but one trooper injured his knee as a result of the incident.

Michigan State Police were assisted by Huron Valley Ambulance and the Washtenaw County Sheriff's office.
