Minor Arrested for Shoplifting Mountain Dew from Dexter Mobil Mart

A 17-year-old was arrested on Feb. 17 at the Dexter Mobil Mart in the 7000 block of Dexter-Ann Arbor Road for allegedly shoplifting a bottle of Mountain Dew.

According to police reports, deputies were dispatched to the gas station around 9:30 a.m. The suspect admitted to stealing the pop because he didn't have any money to pay for it. The teenager was turned over to his parents pending further action.

On Feb. 23, deputies with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office observed a vehicle traveling south on Baker Road in the village of Dexter with its tail light out.

According to police reports, deputies conducted a traffic stop at 12:30 a.m. Upon contact, a deputy observed a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. An 18-year-old male denied smoking any marijuana, police said.

Deputies called a drug recognition expert to the scene and conducted sobriety tests with the driver. According to police, the driver failed four out of four tests and admitted to smoking marijuana two hours prior to the incident. The driver was arrested and taken to the hospital for a blood test. The sheriff's office is currently awaiting the results of the test.
