Police Blotter: Deputies Investigate Suspicious Activity Around Dexter

Here's a look at recent calls to the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department.

Injured animal

About 3:15 p.m. Feb. 19, deputies picked up an injured dog from the 8500 block of Huron River Drive. The dog was medium in size and brown in color. The dog was turned over to the Humane Society of Huron Valley for care, according to reports.

Animal complaint

About 6 p.m. Feb. 18, deputies with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department responded to Dongara Drive for an animal complaint. An individual was walking her greyhound when she encountered another individual walking a pit bull terrier. The terrier broke free and attacked the greyhound, according to reports. The greyhound received treatment for its injuries, and the case is still under investigation.

Suspicious person

On Feb. 18,  deputies with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department were dispatched to the area of Meadowview and York Court in Dexter Village for a call reporting suspicious individuals. The caller reported seeing two males, wearing hoodies, walking slowly around a neighboring residence. The individuals fled the area when they noticed the caller. Deputies checked the residence for security. The two suspects were not located, according to reports.

Disorderly conduct

On Feb. 17, deputies with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department were sent to the area of Melbourne Avenue in Dexter for a disorderly conduct complaint. It was reported that three to four subjects were in the parking lot, yelling and screaming at each other, and that two of the subjects were fighting. The parties involved were no longer on scene when law enforcement officials arrived, according to reports.

Warrant arrest

About 7:35 p.m. Feb. 14, deputies with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department were dispatched to the area of Madden and North Territorial Road in Dexter to check for a suspicious person in a Dodge Caravan. The caller reported that a white male carrying a bottle of Febreze had attempted contact at a residence on North Territorial Road.

Deputies checked the area and located the vehicle on Madden Road. The van was stopped, and officers made contact with the six occupants. The occupants advised that they were working for a vacuum company and were attempting to sell their product(s). They said the Febreze was given to individuals who allowed the men to conduct a demonstration of their product.  

One of the passengers, identified as Freddy Fender-Winters, 31, of Lenawee County, had a valid warrant from the Adrian Police Department for trespassing. The subject was arrested and turned over to Adrian police, according to reports.
