Police Blotter: Tae Kwon Do Instructor Sentenced to Prison

Sexual Assault

A former tae kwon do instructor in Dexter Township, who admitted to sexually assaulting two students and possessing child pornography, was sentenced April 19 to 20 years in prison by Washtenaw County Circuit Judge Donald Shelton. Edward James Bruner, 58, of Scio Township was Jan. 16 after he was driving on Interstate 94 near Chelsea while sexually assaulting a 12-year-old boy.

Burglary

On April 25, deputies assigned to Dexter Township responded a report of burglary of a detached garage in the 8000 block of Fairway Drive, north of Parkview Drive. The deputies determined that unknown individuals broke a padlock on the door to gain entry. A 1996 Honda 300GX red four-wheeler was taken, according to reports.

Warrant Arrest

  • On April 25, deputies assigned to Scio Township contacted a male suspect in the 5000 block of Huron River Drive. The deputies determined that the suspect was wanted on several outstanding warrants for five counts of obtaining a controlled substance through fraud, according to police records. The suspect was arrested and taken to the Washtenaw County Jail.
  • On April 26, deputies assigned to Scio Township stopped a vehicle on Jackson Avenue near Zeeb Road. The deputies contacted the driver and a front-seat passenger and determined that both were wanted on outstanding warrants for driving with a suspended liscense, according to reports. Both subjects were arrested and taken to the Washtenaw County Jail.
