UPDATED: Dexter Area Voters Back Romney in Michigan's Presidential Primary

Here are the results from the February Republican Presidential Primary in western Washtenaw County.

Editor's note: This story has been updated to reflect the results from all Dexter-area polling locations.

Republican Mitt Romney squeaked out a victory in the Dexter area, , during Tuesday's presidential primary election.

With precincts reporting from Dexter, Scio, Lima and Webster townships at 11:35 p.m., Romney beat out Rick Santorum in Dexter by 596 votes, 2,076-1,480.

Voter turnout was just shy of 25 percent.

"Today was a great day for (former) Gov. Romney both in Michigan and Arizona," state Rep. Mark Ouimet, R-Scio Township, said. "Now it's on to Super Tuesday, where I'm sure he will do well there. I think things are coming together nicely for him."

Harley Rider, Dexter Township clerk, said turnout at the polls throughout the day was steady.

"We had a 24 percent turnout. I predicted between 20 to 25 percent. Hardly any Democratic ballots were issued to walk-in traffic, but many recognized Democrats voted Republican ballots," Rider said.

In the January 2008 Presidential Primary, Dexter Township had a 26.9 percent turnout.

Here's a run down of the entire Republican ticket:

Dexter Township

Dexter Township Precinct 1 reported 406 ballots returned out of 1,752 registered voters. Romney led the way with 162 votes, followed by Santorum (134), Paul (38) and Gingrich (17).

Dexter Township Precinct 2 reported 411 ballots returned out of 1,824 registered voters. Romney secured 189 votes, followed by Santorum (145), Paul (24) and Gingrich (19).

Dexter Township Precinct 3 reported 261 ballots returned out of 1,152 registered voters. Romney received 98 votes, followed by Santorum (68), Paul (32) and Gingrich (25).

Webster Township

Webster Township Precinct 1 reported 412 ballots returned out of 2,191 registered voters. Romney led with 172 votes, followed by Santorum (159), Paul (48) and Gingrich (16).

Precinct 2 reported 316 ballots returned out of 1,496 registered voters. Romney led with 162 votes, followed by Santorum (106), Paul (24) and Gingrich (16).

Precinct 3 reported 286 ballots returned out of 1,641 registered voters. Romney led with 135 votes, followed by Santorum (97), Paul (27) and Gingrich (23).

Lima Township

Lima Township Precinct 1 reported 547 ballots returned out of 2,641 registered voters. Romney secured 235 votes, followed by Santorum (189), Paul (69) and Gingrich (15). 

Scio Township
