Dexter Dental Office Undergoes New Ownership, Renovation

In an effort to accommodate a growing clientele, the Great Lakes Family Dental Group in Dexter recently completed a renovation and expansion of its building at 3060 Baker Road.

The building is home to Dr. Peter Wloszek and his staff of five, who took over the clinic following Dr. Robert Turck's retirement in 2011.

Wloszek is a graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, where he learned that patient care isn't just about proper dental procedures.

"Our aim is to care for patients as soon as they walk in the door," he said. "We want to make them feel comfortable and reduce the natural anxiety that some patients have when visiting the dentist."

To that end, the new office has been updated with state-of-the art equipment, patient rooms with dividers for added privacy, a separate sterilization and lab areas, completely remodeled operation room, and a lobby with flat screen television, coffee bar, and Xbox station.

"Everything was dated, and we felt it was time for a new look," Rachel Ritchie, Wloszek's clinical assistant said.

Prior to the renovation, all examines were done in one room, with five stations set up parallel to each other.

"Patients didn't have much privacy, and we thought that was one area we could improve upon," Ritchie said.

Wloszek said the renovation was completed in stages as to not overwhelm current patients.

"A lot of people gave us their blessing," he said. "It was imperative to the success of the business for our patients to see the transition taking place.

Ritchie said renovations began in January with the building's exterior, which included removing the second story, relocating the front entrance, and adding handicap accessibility.

Office Manager Heather Paul said the renovations have been a welcomed change for patients.

"Dr. Wloszek is such a good guy. He does a lot for his patients, and they just love him to pieces," she said. "He truly cares about the overall patient experience."

Wloszek said he's excited to serve the Dexter community and is currently accepting new clients with most dental insurance plans including Delta Dental Plan, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, MIChild, and HealthyKids.

"I'm impressed with the people in Dexter," he said. "There are so many talented, knowlegeable people in the community. I learn something new every day — from outdoor sporting to musical instrument technique."

Wloszek himself is an avid musician and songwriter who received his undergraduate degree in music composition and pre-dental sciences at Oakland University.
