Dexter Solar Panel Company Gets Tax Break

Village Council approved a 50 percent tax abatement for K-Space, Inc. on Monday.

K-Space, Inc., a high-tech company located in Dexter, is doubling its facility size in order to accommodate its venture into the solar panel industry. The company, according to owner and President Darryl Barlett, will also add 10-12 new jobs to its workforce in the near future.

Village Council voted Monday to approve an Industrial Facilities Tax Exemption request by K-Space. The exemption will provide a 50 percent tax abatement on $85,754 in real personal property and $704,132 in real property improvements to their facility over the next seven years.

K-Space, Inc. specializes in the production of semi-conductors. “We have expanded our operation and gotten into the solar panel industry ... solar panels are also semi-conductors,” Barlett said of the company’s need to expand its facilities.

The property improvement project consists of a 6800 square-foot addition to the existing facility located at 2182 Bishop Circle East. The project will be completed in three weeks, according to Barlett.

The goal of the Village’s Industrial Facilities Tax Abatement program is to encourage Dexter-based companies to invest in improving their businesses as well as to encourage new companies to invest in the community.
