Dexter Township Board Appoints Two to Planning Commission

Vickie Kooyers and Martin Ruhlig III will fill vacancies on the commission.

The Dexter Township Board of Trustees unanimously voted to appoint township Trustee Vickie Kooyers and resident Martin Ruhlig III to the Planning Commission at its meeting Tuesday.

Kooyers, who previously served on the Planning Commission but had to step down for personal reasons in June, will fill the vacancy left by former Trustee Julie Knight, who resigned from both the township board and commission after moving out of the township in August.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my previous time on the Planning Commission, and I look forward to continuing my work with the other members," she said.

Ruhlig was appointed to fill a vacancy left by James Korcek, who resigned at the end of October citing time commitments.

"While my intent was to serve out the appointment that I accepted, I will be unable to do so as a responsible citizen while maintaining other commitments that I have already as they relate to my family and primary work responsibilities," Korcek said in his resignation letter.

Ruhlig will represent the agriculture interests of the township on the commission.

"The agricultural voice is an extremely important component on any planning commission," township Supervisor Pat Kelly said. "Although this appointment will fill the remainder of Jim Korcek's three-year term that expires on Dec. 31, my intention is to reappoint Marty to a new three-year term in December."

Ruhlig said he is happy to serve on the commission.

"I will see what I can do," he said.
