Dexter Township Board Approves Fireworks Permits

Fourth of July fireworks are planned for Portage Lake, North Lake and Hudson Mills Metropark.

The Board of Trustees unanimously approved two fireworks display applications for the Fourth of July at its meeting on Tuesday.

The applications were for Gary Locher, on behalf of the Portage Lake Area Community Service Organization, and the North Lake Area Community Service Organization. Locher's display is scheduled for dusk July 1, while North Lake's show is scheduled for July 2.

According to the application, Locher's show near Klaves Marina will include a total of 75 display shells and three finale cakes. The North Lake show will include 126 shells. The location has not been finalized yet.

In addition, the board approved a petition by  to hold a fireworks display at 7 p.m. July 3.

  • Dustin Krasny, field representative for U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg (R-7th District), gave a brief update on the congressman's trip throughout the district. Krasny said Walberg has attended 100 events in and around the district in recent months to meet with constituents on issues such as jobs and lowering gasoline prices.
  • The board voted to defer construction on the Township Hall parking lot until the 2012 construction season.
  • The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department reported 87 service calls in the township for the month of May. Of those, seven were traffic-related, six involved suspicious people, and nine were due to burglary alarms.
