Dexter Township Officials Approve 2011 Millage Rate

Residents will see a slight increase in taxes due to a fire millage that was approved by voters in May.

Dexter Township residents will see a minor increase in their tax bills for 2011.

The Dexter Township Board of Trustees approved its township general fund millage at .8088 mills, which is unchanged from 2010. The board also approved a three-year 1.7 mill fire millage — an increase of 0.2144 mills — and an extension of its current 1.4856 mills for police services. Both the fire and police millage rates during the May 3 general election.

Combined, the fire and police millages will cost a homeowner with a $100,000 home about $318 per year.

"Next year when the Public Safety Advisory Committee has had more time to fully evaluate some issues with fire service, we might be able to cut back (on the fire budget)."
