Dexter Township Seeks Applicants for Open Board, Commission Seats

Applications should be submitted to the township by Dec. 2.

The Dexter Township Board of Trustees is seeking applicants to fill several appointments on the township's various boards and commissions.

Two seats on the Dexter Township Planning Commission are open with terms ending on Dec. 31, 2014. Candidates must be qualified electors of Dexter Township. Members of the Planning Commission represent all interests in the township including agriculture, business, residential and recreation. The Planning Commission is responsible for making and adopting a basic plan to be used as a guide for the development of the township and for the evaluation and approval or denial of site plans for development in the township. The commission meets two times per month on Tuesdays.

Two positions and one alternative position on the Zoning Board of Appeals are open with terms ending on Dec. 12, 2014. Members of the board hear and decide on issues that arise in the administration of the zoning ordinance, including interpretation of the zoning text and maps, appeals of zoning decisions and variance requests. Board meetings are held once a month on Tuesday evenings.

Four representatives and three alternates are needed for the Multi-Lakes Water and Sewer Authority Board. The four-year terms end on Dec. 31, 2015. Applications from any township elector may be considered, but residents in the Multi-Lakes sewer system are preferred. Appointees to the board decide variance requests from users of the system, provide oversight of sewer authority operations and present status updates to the township board. Members meet once a month.

The township's Public Safety Advisory Commitee is seeking nine full-time members for two-year terms. The committee provides an assessment of the overall structure, service levels and funding requirements for the provision of fire, police and emergency medical services to the Dexter Township Board to support and promote the delivery of high quality, cost-effective public safety.
